Justine Want

Young Person and Adult Counsellor

I am a qualified counsellor and currently work with a variety of agencies in the community, schools, and in private practice. I began counselling as a bereavement volunteer for Cruse, supporting people navigating their experience of grief. I went on to train and work with CASY, an agency providing counselling and support for children and young people. I love that my work is with people of all ages as I believe looking after our mental health and emotional wellbeing matters throughout our lives.

I feel privileged to be working with Don’t Lose Hope. I love it’s ethos of the community coming together to create a space where everyone can access support at whatever time in their life they need it. It’s truly inspiring and I feel it says something wonderful about our relationships with each other. I believe relationships are at the heart of being human and this informs my counselling. Our emotional, physical, and spiritual connections with ourselves, each other, our communities and the world around us all have the power to influence our wellbeing. My experience is, that within the warmth, acceptance and honesty of the counselling relationship, my clients are able to explore and process their thoughts, feelings and difficulties. Often this involves talking as we explore, sometimes, particularly with young people, we may use creative ways or play, whatever feels useful to the individual. Working collaboratively this way together enables clients to find their own path to greater wellbeing.
I am passionate about this work. I value difference, empowerment and the freedom to choose. I believe we are all unique and amazing and experience this world in our own subjective way. When that becomes challenging and we find ourselves struggling, special places like Don’t Lose Hope seek to offer support for us all.
